Postdocs

We are seeking excellent postdocs who could finance their stay in our group through a grant. We can assist in identifying research topics and drawing up a top-notch research plan. The followig programs support postdoctoral researchers in Germany:

  • The Alexander-von-Humbold-Foundation offers fellowships for foreign researchers to do research in Germany for up to 24 months under the Humboldt Research Fellowship program or, for nationals from developing countries, the Georg Forster Research Fellowship program.
  • The European Research Council (ERC) offers within its Framework 7 Program several Marie-Curie fellowships for European nationals. There are versions for Postdoctoal researches relocating within Europe (IEF), or for coming back to their home country (ERG, IRG), for example. The ERC also offers Marie-Curie fellowships for researches of any nationality, the Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowships, to finance research at a European host institution.
  • The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) offers Postdoctoral Fellowships to nationals of participating countries. These are (as of 01/2011): all EU member countries, Australia, Canada, India, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Switzerland, and the USA. The application deadline is typically towards the end of November.

PhD projects

We are looking for gifted and motivated PhD students. Our lab is among the leading groups in protein structure prediction and remote homology detection. Another research focus is on understanding transcriptional regulation and detecting weak regulatory motifs in promoter sequences. For most projects, sound programming skills are of great advantage, but other projects are more applied and require deep biological interest in the questions we want to address. If you are fascinated by biology and are strong in quantitative and analytical thinking, chances are that you will fit into our group very well. Interested? HiWi-Projekte

Wir haben fast immer offene Stellen fuer interessierte Studentinnen und Studenten auf (z.B. 10h/Woche), die fruehzeitig im Studium an wissenschaftlichen Projekten in der Bioinformatik arbeiten moechten. Wichtig ist dabei nicht so sehr, was man schon kann, sondern ein starkes Interesse  wissenschaftlich zu arbeiten. Wir streben eine langfristige Zusammenarbeit an, die moeglichst ueber die Bachelorarbeit bis zur Masterarbeit geht und im Idealfall in einer Doktorarbeit muendet. Daher koennen notwendige Grundlagen "on the Job" erarbeitet werden. Praktische Programmiererfahrung in irgend einer Sprache ist allerdings sehr vorteilhaft.

Internships

We offer highly motivated students the possibility to do full-time internships in our group for a minimum of 3 months.
